Job Title: Direct Care Staff
Location: Bakersfield, CA 93306
Employment Type: Full-Time/Temp-to-Hire
Pay: $17+ per hour (DOE)
Position Overview
Legacy Staffing is seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Care Staff on behalf of our client, a residential program serving individuals with mental health conditions. This role is essential for providing care, supervision, and support to residents, helping them develop life skills and maintain a safe, structured environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with mentally ill populations and a strong commitment to client well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Care & Supervision:
- Provide on-site monitoring and assistance to residents
- Support individualized service plans and daily schedules
- Supervise medication administration per physician instructions
- Conduct room checks and light housekeeping
- Ensure compliance with house rules and provide crisis intervention when needed
Group Activities:
- Assist with organizing and supervising recreational, social, and cultural activities
- Instruction: Model and teach daily living skills such as personal care, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining an orderly home environment
Transportation:
- Provide transportation for group outings
Meetings & Reporting:
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
- Maintain client confidentiality and report unusual situations promptly
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of experience providing services to mentally ill or similar populations
- Valid California driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving record
- Ability to pass health screening, TB test, and criminal background check
- Strong communication skills and personal qualities of warmth, responsibility, and respect
- ASL proficiency preferred but not required
Shifts Available
- 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM
- 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM (fixed night shift)
- Flexibility to rotate between morning and afternoon shifts preferred
